Political researchers have found that Americans use the word “exhausted” when they describe the current state of U.S. politics today (other words are: “disgusting, divisive, dysfunctional, corrupt, crazy, confusing, broken, bad, sad”).[1] In essence, there is an overall lack of hope and motivation going into the 2024 election cycle.
What does that mean for us as Christians living in this moment in time? How might scripture address these concerns? How can we lean into practical skills to help us remain grounded as we listen to others who we might disagree with? Finally, how do we keep our hope anchored in a stormy time? Come to discuss these questions and more as Lia Howard shares from a class she teaches out of the political science department at Penn called PSCI 4201: Political Empathy and Deliberative Democracy.
