Candlemas Eucharist

Sunday, January 29 at 4 p.m. “For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel.”

file_3663 Join us for a joyful Candlemas Eucharist as the Cathedral observes the Feast of the Presentation of Christ in the Temple. Many Christians consider Jesus as the “light of the world”, so it is fitting that candles are blessed on this day and that a candle-lit procession precedes the celebration of the Eucharist. The Rev. Robert L. Tate will be the Presider and Preacher.

The nave will be at its most beautiful filled with abundant candlelight . Music for the liturgy will be sung by the Cathedral Singers directed by Thomas Lloyd and accompanied by John Andrew Bailey.

The music will include a serene setting of the “Nunc Dimittis” canticle in ancient church Slavonic, as composed by Victor Kalinnikov, one of the most inspired composers of the Moscow Synodal School.
