The Rev. Canon Sarah E. Hedgis, Canon for Congregational Life & Advocacy
Sarah joined the Cathedral in July 2016. While she is engaged in all aspects of pastoral care, liturgy, advocacy, and spiritual formation, Sarah's ministry focuses on congregational life. She works closely with our congregation to welcome newcomers, build lay leadership, and foster an every-deepening sense of fellowship through the Cathedral's small communities.

Sarah previously served at St. Gabriel's Episcopal Church, a vibrant mission church in Northeast Philadelphia, as well as on diocesan staff as the Director of the Episcopal Mission Center (EMC), a retreat center rooted in the 5 Marks of Mission.
Along with her ministry at the Cathedral, Sarah is a part of the Diocesan Anti-Gun Violence Committee and Central American Refugees Committee.

A native of Georgia, Sarah earned her Bachelor's degree in Christianity/Women’s and Gender Studies from Mercer University and a Master of Divinity from Emory University's Candler School of Theology. She also completed a Diploma in Anglican Studies from the General Theological Seminary in New York City. She was ordained in our very own Cathedral, to diaconate in June 2015 and to the priesthood in January 2016.
Sarah is married to Roger, and they have a wonderfully weird dog name Summah. Sarah enjoys reading (especially the Psalms!) and is on a never-ending search for the perfect slice of pizza. She also loves being a part of the vibrant and dedicated social justice community here in Philadelphia.
All who are baptized are called to journey life with God and our neighbors. Sarah is deeply grateful for the loving, creative, fierce and fun people of the Cathedral congregation with whom she shares this journey.
