Pathway to Sacred Places

An Autumn Retreat

Saturday, September 21:  8:30 am - 12 Noon

Location: Cathedral

Registration: $20

Please pre-register here.

Autumn reminds us of the changing seasons and the impermanence of all things. Seasons change—both in nature and in our lives. The challenge and opportunity of contemplation is to recognize our life as a pathway leading us to sacred places if we have eyes to see and embrace them. This morning of silence, music, poetry and small group sharing will provide a sacred space for autumn contemplation. The Cathedral exhibit of photographs by Richard Kagan of sacred temples and monasteries in Kyoto, Japan will provide a meditative atmosphere. Glen Swann will provide music on the shakuhachi, a Japanese flute used in meditation. Continental breakfast provided.  Childcare available upon request.

Leader:  The Rev. Phillip Bennett is Canon for Spiritual Life as well as a practicing psychologist.

Spiritual Growth

“There is a longing in the human heart for what addresses the most intimate core of our being with its yearning for love and union. When we hear the Heartbeat of God, we experience ourselves being called by name.” –J. Philip Newell

Spirituality involves everything we do. Our growth in the Spirit in always linked to action in the world. The cathedral offers various opportunities to nourish our souls and deepen our spiritual life. Along with our worship services throughout the week, the cathedral hosts seasonal spirituality retreats that include meditation, music, poetry, and sharing in small groups.

We also offer spiritual direction -- relationship in which one person helps another to recognize the presence of the Sacred in their lives and to nurture ways of opening further to the Sacred. This is a gentle process with roughly monthly meetings.  Unlike psychotherapy, it is not problem-solving, but focuses on a person’s spiritual growth. Please contact the cathedral for further information.
