Philadelphia Cathedral invites you to an afternoon tribute honoring the musical legacy of English composer and organist Sir Hubert Parry beginning at 4:00 pm with a Lecture & Organ Recital followed by Choral Evensong.

On Sunday, October 25 at 4:00 pm, Philadelphia Cathedral will celebrate the musical legacy of English composer and organist Sir Hubert Parry.
The afternoon will begin with a lecture by Dr. Jason Farris entitled “The Organ Works of Sir Hubert Parry (1848-1918): A Study of Influences.”
Dr. Farris will then perform a recital featuring the organs works of Parry that will include Chorale Prelude on “Saint Anne (1912), Chorale Fantasia on An Old English Tune: “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross (1915), Chorale Prelude on “Christe, Redemptor Omnium” (1912), Chorale Prelude on ” Saint Cross” (1916) and Fantasia and Fugue in G major (1913).
Choral Evensong, with the Cathedral Singers directed by Dr. Riyehee Hong will follow. Service music will include Parry’s There Is An Old Belief, Dear Lord and Father of Mankind, Magnificat & Nunc dimittis in D major, a setting of Psalm 145, Jerusalem and the Chorale Prelude on “Croft’s 136th (1916) as the organ postlude. Dean Lloyd S. Casson will be the Officiant. A reception will follow. Free will offering.
About the Lecturer Dr. Farris, a native of Moberly, Missouri, earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Organ Performance at the University of Houston, where he studied with Dr. Robert Bates. He earned Bachelor and Master of Music degrees at Baylor University as a student of Dr. Joyce Jones. He is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda and Alpha Chi academic honor societies, and was the Second Place winner in the Graduate Division of the 2003 William Hall Organ Competition ( San Antonio). Active as both a collaborative artist and organ recitalist, Dr. Farris has served as Organist at Tallowood Baptist Church in Houston, TX for five years.
