!
On Sunday,( Saint NIcholas Day) December 6 at 5 PM, Philadelphia Cathedral is delighted to host cellist Nicolas Christianson. Nicolas Henry Christianson is 10 years old and began studying cello at the age of 7 as a student at King’s College School in Cambridge, England.
Nicolas is currently a fifth grade student at The Episcopal Academy in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania and he studies with cellist Kathryn Picht Read, who holds the Winifred and Samuel Mayes Chair in the Philadelphia Orchestra.
In addition to his solo performances, Nicolas has played for two years in the Junior Strings Orchestra at the Settlement Music School, and he currently plays in the Delaware Valley Young Musicians’ Orchestra. Nicolas also studies piano with Donna de Pasquale Harrington, and he is a member of the Philadelphia Boys Choir.
His favorite composer is Johann Sebastian Bach. He thinks that Bach’s music always has a reason and has different shades of colors. His program, which will highlight these colors will include the Chorale Preludes transcribed for cello and organ.
