The Cathedral (founded 1992) is the cathedral of the Diocese of
Pennsylvania (founded 1789) of the Episcopal Church within the Anglican
Communion. The Rt Rev’d Charles Bennison is the fifteenth bishop of the
diocese. The Anglican tradition is historically a via media or middle
way between extremes, a tradition which is both Catholic and Reformed,
and a body of inclusion for which the unity of the followers of Jesus
Christ is more important than individual interpretations of Scripture
or dogma. The Anglican tradition celebrates the Christian life as a
journey of God’s pilgrim people “looking to Jesus the pioneer and
perfecter of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2). In the Anglican tradition we
are more interested in traveling faithfully and humbly, learning all
the way, than in having ‘arrived’.
