The 45-voice Concert
Choir and 18-voice Chorale will present an appealing program entitled
Festival of World Choral Music, all sung in the original languages. Repertoire includes an a cappella motet by Tallis, the first
movement of Stravinsky’s powerful Symphony of Psalms, Rachmaninoff’s
sublime Borogoditse Devo, and the stirring African-American spiritual
“Wade in the Water.” World music selections include Brazilian Muié
Rendera and Mandarin Prairie Love Song , the latter accompanied by
flutes. The choir members also form two smaller ensembles, the Chorale
and Kean Guitar Ensemble, and these groups will perform a cappella
madrigals by Vecchi and Morley, several vocal jazz pieces, a movement
from a Vivaldi concerto grosso and Barrios’ Leyenda Espagnole.

Lecture Recital – Brahms and his music by Michael Musgrave, Ph.D
An Evening of Brahms– A Lecture Recital with Michael Musgrave
This free lecture recital will explore the keyboard works of Brahms
including piano pieces Op.117-119 and three pieces from Brahm’s Organ
Chorale Preludes Op 122 played by Riyehee Hong. Mr. Musgrave’s field of research is 19th and
early 20th century German music, and English concert life in the same
period. He is author and editor of six books on Brahms. He is also
currently writing a biography of Robert Schumann for Cambridge
University Press. He received the Honorary Fellowship of the Royal
College of Music from Prince Charles in 2005. Born in England, Michael
Musgrave graduated in piano and organ at the Royal College of Music, of
which he is currently Visiting Research Fellow, and subsequently in the
field of musicology at the University of London, where he taught for
many years, retiring in 1997 as Emeritus Professor of Music. He now
resides in New York City and is on the faculty of the Juilliard School.

Organist Angelo Castaldo will be perform
a program that will include J. S. Bach’s Preludio e fuga in re magg.
BWV, Sonata IV Op. 65 of Felix Mendelssohn, Ave Maria and Etude
Symphonique op. 78 of Marco Bossi, Introduction and Passacaglia of Max
Reger, Elegia op.30 M. Surzynski and Toccata by Hendrik Andriessen.
After his early musical studies, he gained a diploma in piano and
organ. He graduated “cum laude” in Literature at University “Federico
II” in Naples, also getting a master's degree in Musicology at the
University in Rome. He has played in most important Italian cities and
in Europe. In 2005 he has played also a tournèe in South America and in
USA, including concerts in Chicago, Boston, New York, San Francisco,
Berkeley, and for the New Year’s Concert at National Cathedral in
Washington. In 2006 he has played an extensive concert-tour in
Australia, including a concert at St. Andrews and St. Patrick
Cathedrals in Sydney. In addition, Angelo Castaldo is the Artistic
Director of most important “Organ Festival” in Campania (Italy). He has
been organist of St. Chiara’s Basilica and now is organist and
Choirmaster of Volto Santo’s Sanctuary, the most important church in
Naples. He is Professor of Organ at Conservatoire “N. Rota” in
Monopoli.
