Meaux Cathedral

Riyehee Hong, our Director of Music and the Arts, pictured at Meaux Cathedral, France, on June 24, where she gave an organ concert for the Feast of Pentecost, hailed by the musical press as a ‘recital flamboyant.'

The review lists the works by J.S.Bach, Buxtehude, Lasceux, Grigny, Messiaen and Widor included in the program, and goes on to say;
‘Also blazing was the interpretation of the artist; dynamic, spontaneous even ignited in turn with a flexibility, a limpidity of play and an irreproachable technique. This recital was a great musical moment for the numerous and enchanted audience.'

Free Organ Recitals Wednesdays at 12.30 p.m.

The summer season of organ concerts resumes July 9 and runs through Aug 28.

Diocesan Choir

Image

Cathedral Music & Arts Director Riyehee Hong announces the launch of a new Diocesan Choir, comprised of experienced singers over the age of 18 who can read music and who have some degree of vocal flexibility.

The Choir enhances our common worship in the Diocese by bringing together our diverse musical gifts, using the best of the old and the new in a cosmopolitan and international repertoire, to help us express our unity in Christ as we join forces to give praise to God. The Diocesan Choir will only sing at major diocesan liturgies not scheduled on Sundays and will not compete with choristers’ primary ministry to their own church choirs.

The Diocesan Choir will sing at the following upcoming diocesan liturgies:

  1. Diocesan Initiation Rites, Ascension Day, Thursday, May 17, 7:30pm
  2. Ordination, Saturday, June 9, 10am
  3. Ordination, Saturday, December 15, 10 am
  4. Diocesan Convention Eucharist, November 3, 8.30 am
  5. Diocesan Initiation Rites, Epiphany, Saturday, January 5, 2008,
  6. Absalom Jones Festival, Saturday, February 9, 2008, 10 am

The Choir will rehearse three Mondays prior to each liturgy. The first offering is planned for Ascension Day and rehearsals will take place on April 23, April 30, and May 14, at 7:30 pm, at the Cathedral. Although there will be a plenty of street parking, car pooling is recommended. The Cathedral will have a staff member in front to help with parking.

If you are interested in taking part or would like more information, please contact Riyehee Hong at Philadelphia Cathedral: 215.386.0234, ext. 122, or e-mail, riyeheeh@ philadelphiacathedral.org
